Muff bag, probably British, 1950–59

Astrakhan, suede, and plastic

The primary function of a muff is to protect a woman’s hands from the cold, but many could also carry small personal items within hidden pockets or compartments. This design doubles as a handbag and is made from Astrakhan, the trade term applied to the curled wool of the karakul sheep, which originates from Astrakhan, Russia.
