Bum bag, Vivienne Westwood for Louis Vuitton, French, c1996

Leather and metal

Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris and produced among the first flat-bottom trunks intended for travellers. It is now one of the top luxury brands in the world and produces whole ranges of goods, including men and women’s fashions. British designer Vivienne Westwood collaborated with the company to design this bag, which she modelled on the bustle cages worn by women during the 1870s. This shape also appears in her designs from the mid-1990s.
