Clutch, Alexander McQueen, British, 2010

Leather, metal, rhinestones, and faux pearls

Alexander McQueen was brought up, studied and established himself as a designer in London. He was entirely aware of how the Union Jack had been first appropriated by 1960s pop culture and subverted by such subcultures as the Mods, Skinheads and Punks. Here McQueen combines the Union Jack with a clasp in the form of a skull, the symbol of death.
