Mother-of-pearl, metal, and silk lining

These small cases were made to hold calling cards and were very popular during the nineteenth century. This luxurious example is made from squares of mother-of-pearl laid in a pattern designed to catch the light at every angle. It contains a card printed with the name ‘la Duchesse de Perigord’ and the address ‘rue St Dominique No 107’. Accession Number: SHM.2010.A.59:I
