Bag, British, 1800–09

Wood, leather, and steel

Bags made from wood were unusual and therefore are quite rare. This example is probably homemade and is decorated quite simply with small steel rivets, a linked steel chain handle, and a lyre-shaped clasp, a popular Neoclassical motif of the late Georgian period. It is lined in red leather and pink silk.
