Lucite and metal

Many women entered the workplace during the Second World War but returned to the domestic environment upon its resolution, whether by choice or as jobs returned to men. In this context critics condemned the highly feminine fashions of the 1950s as regressive, anachronistic and high maintenance. This signature Wilardy design, with its decorative metal panels, exemplifies the controversial trend.
